JAMESTOWN FALLS AT FRONTIER

HAMBURG — The Jamestown Red Raiders had a 3-pointer rim out with a second remaining and they fell to Frontier for the second time this season, 38-36, in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 game.

The loss dropped Jamestown to 9-5 overall and 3-4 in the division.

As has often been the case this season, the Red Raiders struggled on the offensive end. Last night, they connected on only 15 of 43 from the floor, including 3 of 17 from the arc, and 3 of 11 from the free throw line. Frontier was 14 of 44 from the field, including 3 of 16 from the arc, and 7 of 11 from the charity stripe.

“It was a tough game,” Jamestown coach Ben Drake said. “It was obviously a half-court, low-scoring game. (Frontier) did a good job of defending our forwards inside. They really packed it in and took away our first options, and we had a difficult time getting much going offensively through the whole night.”

Daunte Garland nearly rallied the Red Raiders in the final minute, drilling a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left to pull them within, 38-36. And after being fouled, Frontier missed the front end of a 1-and-1, but Garland’s game-winning trey rimmed out and the Falcons completed the sweep of Jamestown.

“Frontier has our number this year,” Drake said. “We just need to figure out a way to bounce back. We’re at McKinley on Tuesday and then we end up with four out of our last five at home.”

Demarri Jones led Jamestown with 10 points, Grant Moore had nine rebounds and Simeon Leeper, who was called up from the junior varsity along with Trey Drake, had eight rebounds. Brian Norsen paced Frontier with 13 points and teammate Alex Hiam had 10.

Meanwhile, in the junior varsity game, the Red Raiders ran their record to 12-2 following a 66-55 victory. Jaylen Butera led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Jon Brito added 13 points.
