Jamestown’s Olson Earns HM All-State

SYRACUSE — Peyton Olson had a banner season on the gridiron for Jamestown High School.

He was recognized for it Tuesday by the New York State Sportswriters Association, which has selected him as a Class A honorable-mention all-state linebacker.

A Section VI Class A-1 first-team all-star, Olson led the Red Raiders in tackles with 101, including 15 for loss; registered three sacks; and had eight quarterback hurries.

Offensively, Olson rushed for 599 yards on 96 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Olson’s impact was felt just as much off the field, according to Jamestown coach Tom Langworthy.

“He was a great leader, he was one of our captains and somebody that I think was just a model Red Raider,” he said. “He was dedicated, selfless, he played hard and he was willing to do anything to help the team. We saw that with him moving positions on both sides of the ball. You could just tell he loved the game. That’s very rewarding for the coaches and inspiring to his teammates.”
