Dunkirk Downs Fredonia For Ricker’s 150th Win

FREDONIA — Kymie Nance scored 21 points and Nadara Odell added 20 to lead Dunkirk to an 85-52 Division 1 West basketball victory over Fredonia for Coach Ken Ricker’s 150th of his career.

Nance finished with eight rebounds and dished out four assists to help the Lady Marauders improve to 9-3 overall and 1-2 in the division.

“Kymie was really the difference,” Ricker said. “We thought we had the ability to get by them. … We turned the ball over the first three possessions, but then it clicked and Kymie was able to win the one-on-one battles and create for everybody.”

Odell added 14 rebounds, Olivia Smith chipped in 17 points, Jessica Beehler contributed eight assists and three steals, and Amari Carter collected 11 boards for the Lady Marauders.

Dunkirk led 26-13 at halftime and 49-29 at the break, which made the road to Ricker’s milestone victory relatively easy.

In his ninth year in coaching — he spent the first eight years at Jamestown — the Dunkirk native was reflective as he thought about his tenure at the two schools.

“There are a lot of kids who ran a lot of sprints and dove on the floor for the Jamestown jersey and now we have a group doing it for Dunkirk,” he said. “I’m so lucky to have (assistant coach) Bill Canfield, who shares my passion and understands my craziness. We’re so lucky to have this second chance, and we’re so happy to help kids.”

Anna Buchanan led Fredonia with 14 points and Kelly Gullo had 11.
