Lakers Hockey

Returning to the ice after a mother nature-induced two-week hiatus, the Jamestown PeeWee B hockey team struggled to get their legs moving in a 3-2 loss to the Southtowns Stars in West Seneca.

The Lakers came out flat and managed just six total shots in the first two periods before they awoke in the third. The slow start put the Lakers in too great a hole and, as a result, they suffered their first loss of the season.

The Lakers gave up a lone first-period goal as Liam Jakubowski found the back of the net from the left faceoff dot. To start the second, Solomon Wolf won a battle for the puck in the corner and deftly slid a pass to Brandon Smith in the high slot. Smith then scored, his second of the season. However, just 13 seconds later, the Stars answered, pushing the score to 2-1. The Lakers then failed to clear a Lexi Beckerink save and the Stars shoveled the puck in during a wild goal-mouth scramble.

Finally, in the third period, the Lakers found their speed game. Down 3-1, they launched 10 shots at the Stars goalie. Wolf benefitted from this barrage, tucking the puck behind the goaltender for his third of the year. Pulling Beckerink for a sixth attacker proved unsuccessful this day, resulting in the 3-2 final score.

The Lakers return to the ice on Sunday morning at 8:45 in Olean.
