Final Four Doubles Teams Set

MG, Falconer, Southwestern, Olean Advance To Today’s Semis

LAKEWOOD — The teams from Maple Grove and Falconer showed their dominance in the doubles portion of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Tennis Championships on Thursday at the Lakewood YMCA.

The Lady Red Dragons’ duo of Elise Swanson and Jenna Hayes lost just one game in sweeping their first- and second-round matches to advance to today’s semifinals, which begin at noon.

Meanwhile, the Lady Golden Falcons’ tandem of Macy Youngberg and Nicole Youngberg lost just three games in straight-set victories to move on to today’s action. The other semifinalists are Hiba Munir and Elizabeth Kane of Southwestern and Mackenzie Windus-Maggie Waugh of Olean. All four teams advance to the Section VI tournament with their seedings determined by their finishes today.

The semifinals will pit Swanson and Hayes against Windus and Waugh, and Munir and Kane against Youngberg and Youngberg.

Swanson and Hayes’ path to today’s action included a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ashlyn Newark and Brooke Kettle of Salamanca, and a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Logan Walczak and Elizabeth Marshaus of Chautauqua Lake. The Youngbergs knocked off Olivia Lang and Aleeya Bruner of Olean 6-0, 6-3 and Elyse Graham and Brookelinn Garey of Olean, 6-0, 6-0; Munir and Kane prevailed over Cameryn Wilson and Alayne Schobey of Jamestown, 6-1, 6-0, and Elise Sposato and Anjolie Sanfilippo of Frewsburg, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1; and Windus and Waugh upended Isabella Meyers-Alyssa Pickard of Southwestern, 6-1, 6-2, and Nora Warrior and Haley Pond of Salamanca, 6-3, 6-0.
