ALLEGANY — Southwestern remained undefeated by intercepting a last-second pass attempt in the end zone to hold off winless Allegany-Limestone, 21-14, in Class C South action Friday night.

The Gators (0-4, 0-4) made it a one-score game in the second half when quarterback Logan Klice scored on an 80-yard touchdown run and Connor Golley added the extra-point.

The Trojans (4-0, 4-0) ran most of the remaining time off the clock during their last drive of the fourth quarter before Allegany-Limestone got the ball back and marched to the Southwestern 22-yard line. On the Gators’ final play of the game, the Trojans’ Faizan Munir picked off his second pass of the game in the end zone with .4 seconds showing on the clock to secure the win.

“The conditions were bad on the field, but that’s no excuse,” Southwestern coach Jehuu Caulcrick said after thunderstorms delayed kickoff until about 8:50 p.m. “I had to personally call a better game offensively. We had to execute. We had to make throws and make catches. We couldn’t use footing as an excuse.”

Southwestern led 21-0 at halftime as Mayson Mathews scored on a 9-yard pass and Charles Bailey returned an interception 25 yards for a score in the first quarter before Munir’s 9-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Cole Snyder in the second quarter.

Allegany-Limestone stormed back in the second half. Klice hooked up with Ben Giardini for a 29-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter before Klice’s long run later in the half.

“We knew it was going to be a hard-fought game because it was their homecoming,” Caulcrick said. “We were fortunate to be at home for the first three weeks. We had to be road warriors.”

Snyder went 11 of 24 for 79 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while also leading the Trojans defense with 12 tackles. Drew Wigren added 11 tackles while Tim Harris and Cooper Pannes each had 10 tackles. Zishan Munir led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 69 yards.

Kyle Herbert led Allegany-Limestone with 79 yards rushing on 23 carries.

HILLBILLIES RALLY LATE

BROCTON — Cassadaga Valley/Falconer fell to even at 2-2 on the year after host Fredonia/Brocton (4-0) posted a last-minute comeback on the way to a 24-19 non-league win.

With minutes remaining, the Hillbillies went to the air in a big way as quarterback Trey Swartz hit Jake Skinner with a 40-yard bomb to finish off what was a back-and-forth contest all night long.

“I told our kids at the end that when you play a game like that it is only going to make us better in the long run,” Cassadaga Valley/Falconer coach Joel Sopak said. “We were optimistic when we went up with two minutes to go but we just fell apart on defense a little bit at the end there.”

The Hillbillies’ Dalton Gardner returned an interception 53 yards as the hosts picked up a 12-6 lead in the second quarter.

Cassadaga Valley/Falconer started the day off on the right foot as quarterback Connor Crabtree hit Robbie Penhollow on a 35-yard catch and run to open up the scoring.

The Golden Cougars quarterback added a 15-yard rushing touchdown while Penhollow scored from 5 yards out on the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter.

Penhollow finished with 74 yards on 16 carries for the Golden Cougars while Crabtree completed 7 of 12 passes for 120 yards with a pair of interceptions while rushing for 63 yards on 13 carries for one score.
