Jamestown Oldtimers Win Two Postseason Games

POLAND, Ohio — The Jamestown Oldtimers opened their postseason tournament with a pair of wins over the Labor Day weekend.

Entered as the No. 1 seed, the Oldtimers had a first-round bye, and then defeated No. 6 Salem, 8-5, and No. 3 Westside, 12-4.

Against Salem, Jamestown jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings for winning pitcher Ed Baldensperger and held on for the victory.

Wade Nelson smacked a double for the winners. Dave Warren took the loss.

In the victory over Westside, Don Cummings, Pat Duffey, Daryl Baldensperger and Troy Johnson all smacked doubles in support of winning pitcher Ron Thomas.

Dan Gurgiolo had a double for Westside. Dave Beurle took the loss.

Sitting atop the winners’ bracket, the Oldtimers will meet either No. 2 Springfield or No. 3 Westside at 1 p.m. Sunday at Poland High School.
