Foley Lifts Dragons Past Golden Cougars

Maple Grove improved to 3-0 on the year with a 5-1 non-league boys soccer win over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (0-2) on Wednesday.

Caleb Foley picked up a hat trick for the winners, scoring in the opening minute of play, the 34th minute and midway through the second period.

Tristan Spillane added two more goals for the Red Dragons, picking up an unassisted tally with three minutes left in the first half, and grabbing his second off a corner kick by Kevin Ruhlman.

Gavin Pavlock tallied the lone goal for the Golden Cougars off a free kick, while Matt Brokelbanck made 15 saves in defeat.

Sam Cummings picked up seven saves for the winners.

Maple Grove was also victorious in the modified contest.

WESTFIELD PREVAILS

Westfield was a 4-1 winner over Chautauqua Lake in non-league action, despite Isai Saldana knocking in the opening goal of the contest for the Thunderbirds.

Noah Flurie picked up the assist on that goal, but Westfield responded quickly as Jason Almeter finished off a pass from Josh Heim, and Darian Swanson added a second tally before halftime with Almeter earning the assist.

Almeter added a second tally in last 40 minutes of play, while Dylan Skriven scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Erik Peterson made nine saves for Chautauqua Lake in the loss.
