Cassadaga Valley Upends Dunkirk

Repine, Bretl Lead Way For Lady Cougars

DUNKIRK — Cassadaga Valley beat Dunkirk, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-16, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association North Division volleyball on Tuesday.

“The girls did everything they could have. Cassadaga Valley just had us up on skill. If we had a good play, they just had a better one,” Dunkirk coach Kodi Hoyt said. “They played up with them a majority of the sets and kept a hold of them.”

The Lady Cougars (2-1, 1-0) offense was led by Brooke Repine and Katrina Bretl, who combined for 20 service points. Repine had eight aces, a block and two kills while Bretl registered five aces, five kills and two digs. Kaitlyn Zahl also contributed to 11 of Cassadaga Valley’s service points, providing nine assists and two aces.

The Lady Marauders (1-1, 0-1) effort was led by Amari Carter and Jessica Beehler. Carter provided five tips, three blocks and two aces while Beehler had four assists and two aces.

HILL LEADS BLACK KNIGHTS

SILVER CREEK — Silver Creek took care of Brocton/Westfield, 25-5, 25-11, 25-7, in North Division action.

Silver Creek (1-0, 1-0) was led by Julia Hill — one of the team’s many returners in 2018 — with eight aces and seven assists. Libby Lawton added five aces and four kills.

Brocton/Westfield (0-3, 0-1) was led by Cheyanna Rivera’s three kills and two blocks.

PANTHERS SWEEP FREDONIA

GOWANDA — Gowanda came away with a three-set win over Fredonia in the North Division, 25-16, 25-12, 25-8.

Gowanda (2-0, 1-0) was led by Grace Pawlak with 16 aces while Marleah Stevens had eight kills.

Fredonia (0-1, 0-1) was led by Anna Valone’s four kills and three aces.

KING, COVEY PACE CLYMER

CLYMER — The Clymer Lady Pirates won their second volleyball match in as many outings, downing Pine Valley, 25-21, 25-20, 25-12, in a Central Division match.

Hannah King paced Clymer with three kills, three blocks and two aces, Ashley Covey added two aces and two digs, and Abbie Heslink collected two assists and one block.

Emily Pfleuger paced Pine Valley with two aces and 15 assists, Sadie Fadale had an ace, and Lync Westlund contributed two kills and one ace.

TROJANS TAKE THREE

FALCONER — Anna Rauh led Southwestern with five kills while Angela Lunz had 10 assists, four kills and two digs as the Trojans opened Central Division play with a 25-22, 25-11, 25-20 win over Falconer.

Maddie Brooks added three kills and four blocks while Abby Manelick had eight aces, two kills and two digs for Southwestern (1-1, 1-0).

Bekah Morales had five kills and an ace; Claudia Russell had 10 digs; Grace Camarata had 11 digs, two kills and an ace; and Tesika Kilmer had a block for the Golden Falcons (0-2, 0-1).

Falconer won the jayvee match, 25-15, 14-25, 25-21.
