Jamestown’s Gullo Shoots Second-Round 86; Section VI Takes Fourth

ITHACA — Adam Xiao of Section VIII Manhasset was able to fire a 67 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on Monday to take home the individual New York State Public High School Athletic Association Golf Championship at Cornell University.

Xiao carded a 76 in his opening round for a 143 final, holding off first-round leader Matt Ferrari of Section I Croton (70-75-145) and Jack Bailey of Section V McQuaid Jesuit (75-71-146).

Section V took home the team title with a final score of 1,064, while Section I grabbed 1,071, Section XI 1,095 and Section VI finished in fourth with a 1,097.

Leading Section VI to that finish was Aidan Shaw of Orchard Park (73-76-149), Andrew LaCongo of East Aurora/Holland (79-74-153), Ben Spitz of Orchard Park (75-78-153), Anthony Delisanti of Niagara Wheatfield (76-80-156), Zac Boyes of Kenmore West (78-79-157), Tyler Edholm of Sweet Home (83-80-163), Matt Jeffe of East Aurora/Holland (88-79-168), Mitch Jeffe of East Aurora/Holland (89-79-168), and Anthony Gullo of Jamestown (91-86-177).

After carding his 91 on Sunday, Gullo was able to rebound with a round of 86 to close out his senior season with the Red Raiders.

Gullo was named the Section VI Sportsmanship Award winner, and was able to get his opening nine holes back on track with a birdie at the par-4 sixth.

The senior would finish bogie-bogie-par for a 40 on the front stretch, paring both par 3s on the back nine to finish 10-over to take 85th place.
