Class C Honors Go To Teets, Anderson

Chautauqua Lake celebrated one of the greatest days in the school’s athletic history when the Thunderbirds won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C softball championship less than two weeks ago.

Now the individual parts that made up that title team are receiving statewide recognition.

Thunderbirds junior pitcher Olivia Anderson was named the Class C co-Player of the Year and Sue Teets was named the Class C Coach of the Year as the 29th annual New York State Sportswriters Association and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports all-state softball team was released Tuesday.

Chautauqua Lake rode the right arm of Anderson all the way to South Glens Falls en route to an 18-4 overall record. Once they arrived at Moreau Recreation Park, the Thunderbirds beat Greenville, 2-0, in the semifinals before knocking off Pine Plains, 9-3, for the state title.

Junior third baseman Cianna Braymiller joined Anderson on the all-state team with Third Team recognition while junior catcher Chadelynn Johnson was named to the Fourth Team and the team’s lone senior, shortstop Cameryn Hawkins, was named to the Fifth Team.

Dunkirk senior shortstop Emilee Hanlon, who will take her talents to the University of Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference next fall, was named to the First Team in Class B.

Back in Class C, Cassadaga Valley junior pitcher Brittyn LeBaron was named to the Third Team while Cattaraugus-Little Valley sophomore shortstop Lexi Wulf was named to the Fifth Team.

In Class D, senior pitcher Rebecca Cyrek of North Collins and senior pitcher Ally Haskell of Franklinville were both named to the First Team. Forestville senior pitcher Brooke Ostrye was named to the Second Team while receiving Third Team honors were Ellicottville senior shortstop Evie Cortez and North Collins senior center fielder Alexa English. On the Fourth Team was Franklinville sophomore catcher Dani Haskell while North Collins senior third baseman Morgan Mathis was named to the Fifth Team.

St. Mary’s of Lancaster sophomore catcher Maggie Kellner was the Class C co-Player of the Year with Anderson.

Section V Victor sophomore pitcher Katie Sidare was named the Class AA Player of the Year while her coach Shelly Collins was named the Coach of the Year. In Class A, Section IV Maine-Endwell senior pitcher Emily Hess was named the Player of the Year while Iroquois coach Aaron Vanderlip was named the Coach of the Year. Section II Ichabod Crane senior pitcher Calista Phippen was named the Class B Player of the Year and her coach Tracy Nytransky was named the Coach of the Year. In Class D, Section II Fort Ann junior pitcher Kayla Bailey and Section IV Deposit Makenzie Stiles were co-Players of the Year while Section III Fabius Pompey coach Cait Smith and Fort Ann coach Jason Humiston shared Coach of the Year honors.

Section VI student-athletes named to all-state teams in Class AA were: Lancaster senior outfielder Madisyn Pepke (First Team), Orchard Park senior second baseman Lillian Wozniak (Second Team), Niagara-Wheatfield junior third baseman Mackenzie Quider (Third Team), Lancaster senior catcher Olivia Kincanon (Fourth Team), Williamsville North senior second baseman Miranda Fish (Fifth Team) and Orchard Park senior catcher Kayla Raymond (Sixth Team).

In Class A, West Seneca East senior pitcher Anilese Kelly and Iroquois senior pitcher Brooke Plonka were both named to the First Team. On the Second Team were Williamsville East junior first baseman/second baseman Rachel Steffan and Nardin Academy junior pitcher Jesse DiPasquale. Williamsville East freshman pitcher/first baseman Summer Clark received Third Team honors while Lewiston-Porter junior pitcher Riley Crum was named to the Fourth Team. On the Fifth Team was Nardin senior catcher Alyssa Coons while Iroquois junior catcher Rachel Yax, Williamsville South senior pitcher Katie Quigliana and Iroquois sophomore shortstop Kennedy Haberl were named to the Sixth Team.

Olean senior pitcher Alyssa Ramarge and Akron senior catcher Abby Stone were both named to the Class B First Team. On the Second Team was Olean senior catcher Mariah Moses while Eden freshman pitcher Kaitlin Schmitz was named to the Third Team. Cleveland Hill senior pitcher Taylor Betz received Fourth Team honors.

Portville senior catcher Piper Slocum was named to the Class C Second Team.
