Striders Athletes Compete At SUNY Brockport
BROCKPORT — The Chautauqua Striders turned in fine showings at the USATF Niagara Junior Olympics Championships on Saturday at SUNY Brockport.
Leading the way was Anton Graham, who turned in a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 meters (12.30) and the long jump (17-6 3/4) in the Boys 13-14 Division.
Also recording firsts were Harry Monfort in the 400 meters (53.40) in the Boys 15-16 Division; and Dagon Bryant in the 800 meters (2:17.19) in the Boys 17-18 Division. Bryant also placed second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:52.32) and third in the 3,000 meters (11:09.99).
Meanwhile, Giovana Calamunci finished second in the Girls 15-16 100-meter hurdles (16.81) and third in the triple jump (32 feet, 9 inches); Miracle Berekah was second in the Boys 15-16 400 meters (55.29) and fourth in the 200 meters (24.86); LeBron Fisher was third in the Boys 15-16 200 meters (24.81) and third in the 400 meters (55.87); and Jalil Salik was fourth in the Boys 13-14 100 meters (13.95).
The top five in each event qualified for the Region 2 Junior Olympic Championships July 12-15 at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey.
In other Striders’ results, Jonah Rojas, competing in the 17-18 Men’s Division, placed sixth in both the 100 meters (12.12) and 200 meters (24.64).
