JCC Teams Honored For Academic Excellence

Three Jamestown Community College athletics teams were honored as 2017-18 NJCAA Academic Team Award winners for maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.00.

The Jayhawks volleyball team finished with a team GPA of 3.42 as did the women’s basketball team while the women’s soccer team maintained a GPA of 3.15.

“Jamestown Community College and its athletic department is extremely proud of our student-athlete’s achievements to receive this esteemed honor for their work in the classroom, from the NJCAA,” Keith Martin, JCC athletic director, and Angela Pucciarelli, assistant director of athletics, said in a joint news release. “2017-18 was an exciting and outstanding year for our student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the playing fields.”

Twenty-two individual Jayhawks were also honored on First, Second and Third teams for having GPAs of at least 3.60 over the school year.

Jamestown CC student-athletes named to NJCAA All-Academic First Teams for having GPAs of 4.00 were golfer Marina Kessler; women’s soccer players Annalise Boyer, Heidi Hoden and Morgan Schoonover; volleyball player MacKenzie Marsh; women’s basketball player Taylor Phelps; and baseball player Ryan Johnson.

Jayhawks named to NJCAA All-Academic Second Teams for having GPAs of 3.80-3.99 were women’s basketball players Hayden Burgeson and Olivia Lynn; volleyball player Kaylin Brumagin; and women’s soccer player Kennedy Scott.

Jamestown CC student-athletes named to NJCAA All-Academic Third Teams for having GPAs of 3.60-3.79 were volleyball player Alyssa McCarthy; swimming & diving team members Autumn Ridout and Christine Kuzminski; women’s basketball players Brittany Lancaster and Emilee Sperry; baseball player Caleb Palmatier; wrestler Joshua Snyder; men’s soccer players Luis Diaz and Nyle Bird; and women’s soccer players Abigail Merchant and Rebecca Butcher.
