Section VI Postseason Softball Set To Begin
The No. 9 Southwestern Trojans (3-10) were scheduled to begin Section VI Class B2 softball playoff softball action on Tuesday afternoon with a matchup against No. 8 Gowanda (3-9), but because of the weather that prequarterfinal game has been rescheduled for 4:45 p.m. today in Gowanda.
Should the Lady Trojans win, they will earn a date with No. 1 Royalton Hartland (13-0) in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
On the other side of the aisle in Class B-1, Olean is the No. 1 seed, and the Huskies are scheduled to take on the winner of No. 8 Newfane (0-13) and No. 9 Springville-Griffith (0-16) at home on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
Fredonia is the No. 2 seed with an 11-3 record, and is scheduled to take on the winner of No. 7 Albion (0-15) and No. 10 Charter School of Applied Technology (2-6) on Thursday in quarterfinal action.
The final quarterfinal game in the bracket will see No. 3 Dunkirk (12-5) take on No. 6 City Honors (5-8) at 4:45 p.m. with the Marauders hosting on Thursday.
No. 1 Portville (15-1) will be the only team to earn a first-round bye in Class C action, as the Lady Panthers will wait to face the winner of Thursday’s prequarterfinal between No. 9 Holland (4-9) and No. 8 Barker (5-11).
Also on Thursday No. 13 Salamanca (2-10) will travel to face No. 4 Lafayette (12-0); No. 12 Allegany Limestone (3-10-1) will travel to face No. 5 Cattaraugus-Little Valley (8-6); No. 15 Falconer will travel to meet No. 2 Chautauqua Lake (6-2); No. 10 Silver Creek (5-10) will travel to meet No. 7 Randolph (6-11); No. 14 Tapestry (2-11) will travel to meet No. 3 Cassadaga Valley (10-2); and No. 11 Brocton (6-7) will travel to meet No. 6 Maple Grove (5-7).
Franklinville is the team to beat in Class D, holding a top-seeding and a record of 11-1.
The Panthers will wait until Monday to host the winner of Thursday’s prequarterfinal between No. 8 Pine Valley (2-11) and No. 9 Sherman (1-10), which Pine Valley will host at 4:45 p.m.
Also on Monday, No. 5 Frewsburg (4-9) will travel to take on No. 4 Panama (6-5); No. 7 Ellicottville (4-9) will travel to take on No. 2 Forestville (10-4), and No. 6 Clymer will visit No. 3 North Collins (12-4).
Rounding out local playoff action is Jamestown, and the Red Raiders (1-11) have a Thursday date on the road with No. 8 Lockport (6-10) in prequarterfinal action.
The winner of that tilt will meet No. 1 Orchard Park (12-3) on Monday at 4:45 p.m.
