BASEBALL Sam Mullen, Silver Creek. Sam Mullen put together a big stretch of hitting for Silver Creek, going 9 for 13 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and a home run while helping the Black Knights go 3-1 on the week. Mullen had a 1.231 slugging percentage and boasted an on-base percentage of .813.
TENNIS, Quinn Payne, Panama. On Tuesday, Quinn Payne improved to 7-0 for the season as Panama recorded a 5-0 win over Westfield, beating Olivia Clamp, 6-0, 6-0. On Monday, Payne posted a pair of wins in a doubleheader against Dunkirk, topping Shaun Kelly, 10-0, and then beating Jordan Covey, 10-1.
GOLF, Anthony Gullo, Jamestown. On Monday, Anthony Gullo carded a 50 as part of a 28.5-26.5 win over Fredonia at Moon Brook Country Club for the Red Raiders before shooting 36 at Holiday Valley Resort on Thursday to earn medalist honors and help Jamestown to a win over Ellicottville. Gullo then fired 37 in a 34-21 win over Falconer on Friday at Breezewood Links.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD, Samantha Gilbert, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley. On Tuesday, Samantha Gilbert won three events to lead Falconer/Cassadaga Valley past Dunkirk, 97-37, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 action as she took home the 100-meter hurdles (18.9), 100 meters (12.9) and triple jump (31-3). Gilbert also took second in the 100 meters and third in the triple jump at Saturday’s Dunkirk Invitational.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD, Francisco Rodriguez, Jamestown. Francisco Rodriguez was a double winner for the Red Raiders, taking first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.5 and also winning the 200 meters in a time of 23.6 during Tuesday’s Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 loss to Frontier. ... On Friday at the Dunkirk Invitational, Rodriguez was part of the winning 400-meter relay team that clocked a 45.86 and took second in the 200 meters.
SOFTBALL, Brittyn LeBaron, Cassadaga Valley. On Friday, Brittyn LeBaron continued her unbeaten streak in varsity starts, fanning 10 batters and allowing only one fly ball in a 2-0 perfect-game victory over Forestville that included a double at the plate. On Monday, LeBaron aided Cassadaga Valley to an 8-6 win over Brocton, fanning five while adding two singles and four RBIs at the plate. On Thursday, the Cougars topped Clymer, 8-2, with LeBaron fanning seven while throwing a three-hit complete game.
