Six Reach Double Figures As Tribunes Beat Jayhawks
ROCHESTER — Ryan Beckles led six players in double figures with 20, and Monroe Community College capped the regular season with a 102-76 win over Jamestown CC in NJCAA Region 3 Division II action Wednesday evening.
The Tribunes finished with a 13-2 region record and will take a 22-5 overall mark into next weekend’s Region 3 tournament, which the team will host.
Beckles hit six of Monroe’s 15 3-pointers on the evening. CJ Prater added four 3s and scored 14 points.
Brien Wilson chipped in with a career-high 14 points to go along with eight boards and a pair of blocked shots for Monroe CC, which shot 54 percent from the floor. Mike Kelly Jr. added 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists while Majesty Brandon and Kewan Platt scored 13 points apiece. Omari Brown and Wes Nelson Jr. scored 7 points apiece.
The Jayhawks, who played just six players, were led by Chris Robson’s 23 points and five assists. Terrance Cosby added 17 points and 14 rebounds while Germaine Wright had 14 points.
“You are what you are and you are what you earned,” Jamestown CC coach George Sisson said. “I think that’s where we are at right now.”
The Jayhawks finished the season 6-19 overall and 0-15 in Region 3.
“I’m proud of the guys at the end of the year. … We battled,” Sisson said. “To be quite honest, this team never gave itself a chance to reach its full potential. Because of stuff that happened throughout the year, we never really knew what we were able to be.”
