FREWSBURG –The Chautauqua County Chapter of the Friends of NRA recently held it’s fund raising banquet at the American Legion Post.

On Feb. 24, chairman Jennifer Schmitt welcomed a full house to the 26th annual banquet. She honored veterans as well as active military and law enforcement, and also thanked many local businesses and vendors for their generous donations and support. Bob Johnson of Chappy’s Outdoors gave the blessing and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

New York State Senator Cathy Young was present, along with Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson and Judge Stephen Cass.

Bruce McGowan, New York State field representative, conducted events of the evening keeping excitement building for various games and prizes, including a 50/50 drawing. Attendees were able to join in several games of chance and a silent auction to take home cash and prizes.

Cory Brown, auctioneer, led the live auction. Highlights of the auction were an electric guitar signed by Ted Nugent, the book 13 Hours signed by Mark Geist and a framed John Wayne commemorative set, as well as a Matco Tool service cart, manufactured in Lakewood.

The evening culminated with the drawing of the bucket raffle winning tickets.

FNRA supports the shooting sports through grants to sporting and environmental groups. The grants provide funds for safety and educational programs, including youth and scouting groups as well as high school trap leagues.

Next year’s banquet will be held Feb. 23, 2019.
