JCC Women Still Can’t Solve Monroe CC

ROCHESTER — Sierra Green scored all of her game-high 20 points in the second half and went over the 1,000-point mark in her career as Monroe Community College wrapped up the regular season with a 72-57 NJCAA Region 3 Division II win over Jamestown CC on Wednesday evening.

After going 0 for 2 from the floor and picking up a pair of quick fouls in the first half, Green came out hot in the third to help the Tribunes hold off the Jayhawks. Her first two baskets got her to 1,000 points for her career, and she finished with 15 in the third quarter as Monroe CC opened a double-digit lead heading to the fourth.

The Tribunes then held Jamestown CC to 10 points in the final quarter to finish off the victory.

Monroe CC ends the regular season 15-0 in the region and 27-2 overall. The Tribunes will be the top seed and host the region tournament March 10-11. Jamestown CC (19-6, 11-4) will be the No. 2 seed.

Jaynelle Robinson shook off some foul trouble of her own to finish with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Monroe CC. Lanay Rodney added 15 points and 10 boards while Samirah Henderson hit three 3s and scored 11 points. Torrie Cash tallied 5 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Erica Abitante had 5 points and five assists.
