Jamestown YMCA Jets Complete Regular Season
GENEVA, OHIO — The Jamestown YMCA Jets completed the 86th regular season of competitive swimming on Feb. 25, at the NWPA League Championship meet held at Spire Institute. The Jets had the honor of hosting this event that featured 10 teams and 502 swimmers competing for the league trophy.
The 68 Jets who competed captured first in three of the 10 age groups they competed in, but it wasn’t enough to give them the three-peat as league champions. This year’s top honor went to the Titusville YMCA, which downed the Jets, 2,423-2,182.
“As individuals we swam well,” said YMCA head coach Jason Chinni. “As a team we couldn’t overcome being outnumbered. I am thrilled at how close the meet was considering we had 20 swimmers unable to make the trip with us and it put us at a great disadvantage.
“Even without bringing home the trophy, we have had a solid season. We are taking 32 swimmers into the postseason and have broken 22 team records this year, so we must be doing something right.”
The Jets will be traveling back to Spire this weekend to compete in the Pennsylvania Western District Championships. Swimmers who place top six at this meet will continue on to compete at Penn State later in the month.
The Jets 2018 District team is as follows: B. Anderson, J. Anderson, B. Byrd, W. Darling, C. Dean, K. Dean, M. Faulk, B. Frederes, I. Grijalva, A. Grijalva, A. Hren, L. Hren, A. Jones, B. Kayes, D. Laurin, B. Lindstrom, Z. Marra, E. McAvoy, A. McCleery, N. Miles, Z. Miles, G. Moore, G. Moore, M. Moore, G. Osborne, J. Roehmholdt, M. Roehnholdt, A. Shimmel, S. Simons, E. Spitz, L. Spitz and A. Stockwell.
The Jets are locally based out of the Jamestown YMCA and have more than 80 swimmers from 13 school districts in Chautauqua County and Pennsylvania. Swimmers range from first time on a swim team to state and national qualifiers. The Jets invite all swimmers 5-18 years of age who are able to swim a length of the pool front crawl and backstroke to come and try out in the future. All swimmers who want to have fun and race are encouraged to try out the spring camp that begins April 25. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com for more information.
