Jamestown JVs Fall Just Short Of State Title

NIAGARA FALLS — Jamestown’s JV team came up just a period short of matching its varsity team at the AAU New York State High School JV Club Championships at Hyde Park Ice Pavilion over the weekend.

Late Sunday afternoon, the Raiders led Oceanside, 2-0, after the second period, only to see Oceanside rally for four third-period goals for a 4-2 win in the Silver Division.

Tristan Spillane scored unassisted in the first period before Jed Hirliman scored from Brendan Hirliman in the second period for the Raiders.

Michael Waltuch scored from James Butler; Anthony Piarulli scored from Sean Famularo; Butler scored from Anthony Cinetti; and Waltuch scored from Steven Farsky into an empty net for Oceanside.

Jamestown advanced to the title game with a Sunday morning semifinal win over City Honors/O’Hara, 5-2.

Chase Jones scored unassisted, Lucian Talbett scored from Jake Guimond and Cooper Bergman; Jones scored from Devin Wolfe; Spillane scored from Bergman; and Guimond scored from Spillane for the Raiders.

Dominic Gambino scored from Tommy Maloney and Patrick Burke; and Maloney scored from Zack McLear and Billy Stephens for City Honors/O’Hara.

The Raiders advanced to the semifinal with a 3-0-0 showing in Division 2 of the Silver Bracket.

On Friday afternoon, Jamestown beat Port Washington, 5-2.

Jones scored from Zechariah Padd and Spillane; Brendan Hirliman scored from Bergman and Wolfe; Guimond scored from Josh Brown and Talbett; Michael Gerace scored from Will Turner; and Jones scored unassisted for the Raiders.

Sam Geida scored from Chris Byrne and Finn Tatti; and Tatti scored unassisted for Port Washington.

On Saturday morning, Jamestown beat Wilson/Newfane, 5-0.

Guimond scored unassisted; Talbett scored from Wolfe and Guimond; Gerace scored from Brendan Hirliman; Spillane scored from Brendan Hirliman and Bergman; and Spillane scored from Cooper Spielman.

On Saturday afternoon, the Raiders topped Bellmore/Merrick, 4-3.

Spillane scored from Bergman and Brendan Hirliman; Luke Tota scored from Jones; Spillane scored unassisted; and Bergman scored from Spillane and Brendan Hirliman for Jamestown.

Kevin Norton scored from Quinn Daniels and Steven Sasson; Sasson scored from Jake Skulnik and Dylan Schmid; and Joseph Santagata scored from Sean Johnson for Bellmore/Merrick.

Jack “Eddie” Yost was in net all weekend for the Raiders, finishing with four wins, including a shutout.
