Franklinville Girls Headed To State Title Game

TROY — The Franklinville girls basketball team took another big step forward towards its ultimate goal of taking home a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D Championship on Saturday night, rolling through the semifinals with a 59-40 win over Edwards-Knox out of Section X.

The Panthers now sit at a perfect 25-0 on the year thanks to 19 points from Danielle Haskell and 18 from Ally Haskell, with the latter firing home three buckets from beyond the arc in the second quarter to give the Panthers a 12-point lead heading into halftime.

Franklinville would hold off any chance of a push by the Cougars with five 3s in the fourth quarter, on its way to 13 long range buckets as a team.

Abby McCoy added 11 points in the win, Brianna Broadwell had 9.

Riannon Holly finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds for Edwards-Knox in the post.

Franklinville, still the No. 1-ranked team in Class D, according to the New York State Sportswriters Association, will now look to earn its first ever school basketball title in an 11:45 a.m. matchup today with Delaware Academy (23-2) out of Section IV, which rolled past Section VII Moriah via a 55-26 final.
