Trojans Still Can’t Be Beat

Sophomore Gianna Hoose scored a career-high 14 points to help Southwestern clinch at least a tie for the CCAA Division 1 West title with a 69-33 victory over Maple Grove.

Hoose scored 6 points in the second quarter as the Trojans built a 31-18 halftime edge. She added 6 more in an 18-1 fourth quarter to close it out.

Erin Radack scored 20 points, including 8 in the second quarter, to go along with eight rebounds and five steals. Izzy Bursch chipped in 14 points and five steals while Alanna Dibble had 10 rebounds for the Trojans (16-0, 10-0).

Marissa Schuppenhauer led the Red Dragons (12-7, 6-5) with 13 points while Courtney Hemminger grabbed six rebounds, Riley Caskey had four steals and Bre Hill blocked four shots.

FALCONER — Fredonia took a 25-9 lead after one quarter and took down Falconer, 67-32, in CCAA Division 1 West action.

Madison Goss led the Hillbillies (6-11, 6-4) with 12 points while Kazlin Beers added 11 and A’Cetta Farrait chipped in 10.

Sarah Disbro led the Golden Falcons (4-15, 0-11) with 12 points and three steals.

T’BIRDS BALANCE IT OUT

OLEAN — Eight players hit multiple field goals as Chautauqua Lake beat Olean, 59-21, in CCAA Division 1 West play.

“Everybody contributed in the win,” Chautauqua Lake (13-6, 9-2) coach Bill Persons said.

The first half was all Thunderbirds as they took a 40-11 lead, thanks in part to 11 of Jesse Zenns’ game-high 13 points.

Katelyn Fardink had 9 points, Lily Woodis added 8 points and Lexi Jacobson had 7 points, six steals and six assists for chautauqua Lake. Zenns led with six rebounds.

Justine Brooks led Olean (7-11, 2-8) with 6 points.

Kate Honey finished her night with 10 rebounds and 5 points while Nashia Duryee led the Pirates (9-9, 3-6) with 8 points.

SINCLAIRVILLE — Zoey Charrette scored 25 points to go along with four steals as Sherman prevailed over Cassadaga Valley, 53-36, in CCAA Division 2 West action.

Emily Starceski added 10 points and nine rebounds; Maggie Myers had eight rebounds and four steals; and Hannah Murdock grabbed seven rebounds for the Wildcats (13-7, 8-2).

Heidi Williams led the Cougars (4-15, 0-9) with 13 points to go along with six rebounds while Brooke Repine had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Kaylee Pattyson chipped in six rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.

FREWSBURG — Sophia DeMarco had the hot hand in the first half for Westfield in a 44-37 CCAA Division 2 West win over Frewsburg.

DeMarco scored 12 points in the second quarter and 14 by halftime to keep the Wolverines (7-11, 3-6) close, trailing 21-20 at halftime.

DeMarco finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds while Laura Johnston had 11 points and four steals in the win. Susie Wolfe added six assists.

Dani Gray led the Bears (7-11, 5-5) with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

RANDOLPH — Led by Morgan Davis, Allegany-Limestone beat Randolph, 61-26, in CCAA Division 1 East play.

Davis scored 22 points, Brooke Giardini added 12 points, and Shaelynn Maley chipped in 9 points as the Gators (16-1, 10-0) won their 10th straight league game and 11th straight overall.

“We couldn’t make a shot in the second half,” said Randolph coach Shawn Huntington, whose team shot 7 for 37 after the break.

Nizhoni Kennedy had 9 points and Kara Leeper added 7 points for Randolph (10-7, 6-3).
