Dunkirk, Falconer Bowlers Compete At Invite
CHEEKTOWAGA — The boys and girls bowling teams from Dunkirk and Falconer competed in the first Section VI Invitational Bowling Tournament on Saturday at Airport Lanes.
The site of the upcoming Section VI Championships on Feb. 14 (boys) and Feb. 15 (girls), the site had the same oil pattern — the Tower of Pisa — that will be used at the sectionals.
Among the 20 girls teams, Dunkirk (4,595 total pins for six games) finished 11th overall and Falconer (4,562) placed 13th. Cheektowaga (5,126) was first, Orchard Park (5,028) was second and Frontier (5,014) was third.
Rachel Glowniak led Dunkirk with a 166-164-222-552 in the morning and a 483 in the afternoon for a 1,035 total, which placed her 10th out of 116 bowlers. The 222 game was the third-highest game of the day. Makayla Pasierb placed 37th overall with a 445-504-949. Olivia Corbett had the Lady Marauders’ team-high series and the 10th overall afternoon showing with a 192-166-172-530.
Leading the way for Falconer were Mckyla Scott and Beth Brown, who finished 24th and 25th respectively.
Scott tossed a 470 in the morning and a 181-167-157-535 in the afternoon, while Brown registered a 460 in the morning and a 206-146-191-543 in the afternoon. Teammate Beth Wallace rolled a 145-170-185-500 in the afternoon.
For the boys, Falconer (4,487) finished 18th and Dunkirk (4,458) placed 19th out of 22 teams.
Orchard Park (5,796) was first, and Iroquois and Rush-Henrietta of Section V tied for second with a 5,363.
Seventh-grader Brady Corbett was the top bowler for Dunkirk with a total pinfall of 940, which placed him 48th out of 135 bowlers. In the afternoon, he had the team-high series of 185-180-156-521. Tristan Skelly finished 51st overall (913) followed by Trevor Skelly in 56th place (883). Jaxson Pencek rolled a 180-145-168-493 in the afternoon.
For Falconer, Jon Zdunski was the top bowler with a 1,077 overall pin count. He shot 178-160-176-514 in the morning and 165-181-217-563 in the afternoon, placing him 18th overall for the day. Matt Gullotti placed 45th overall with a 467 in the morning and 489 in the afternoon.
Both teams will be in action this week at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Tournament. The boys bowl on Tuesday and the girls on Wednesday.
