Dragons Rally Past Westfield

ERIE, Pa. — The fourth quarter proved to be difference as Maple Grove rallied for a 60-56 victory over Westfield in non-league boys basketball at the Erie Insurance Arena prior to the Erie Bay Hawks game.

Maple Grove (7-9, 3-8) trailed after three quarters, 40-39, but went on a 21-16 run to pull out a victory.

Carson Crist scored seven points and was 4-of-4 from the foul line as Maple Grove hit 9-of-11 foul shots during the fourth quarter. Peter Auer added 3-of-3 from the foul line.

Crist led the Red Dragons with 19 points followed by Simon Olson with 12 points and Truman Purslow with 11 points. Purslow also brought down 11 rebounds and had five assists. Nick Fabrizio added seven rebounds and Auer had six assists to go along with six rebounds.

Mike Johnson was high for Westfield (5-4, 9-7) with 21 points and Ryan Jafargian added 10 points. Felix Torres and Jafargian each grabbed six rebounds.

NELSON SHINES

ELLICOTTVILLE — Brad Nelson shined for Frewsburg in the consolation game of Springville Tournament played at Ellicottville Central School.

Nelson scored 28 points when the Bears (9-7) stopped Springville (5-11), 75-62, despite 44 points from junior standout Mason Goodridge.

The second quarter was the big reason for the victory as Frewsburg went on a 25-10 run to take a 38-25 halftime lead.

Quinn Conlan scored 10 points and Nelson added seven points during Frewsburg’s second period. Nelson went on to score a varsity career high 28 points.

Goodridge, who came in averaging over 24 points per game, had 12 points in the opening period followed by totals of eight in the second, 11 in the third and 13 more in the fourth.

Conlan finished with 18 points and Aaron Hair added 11 points for the winners. Conlan grabbed nine rebounds, Hair had eight and Nelson hauled in seven while the latter also had seven assists in a fine all-around effort.

Adam Pruitt assisted Goodridge with 12 points for Springville.
