Xpress Take Second Straight In Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio — The Southern Tier Xpress completed a weekend sweep of Wooster on Sunday, beating the Oilers, 8-4, at Alice Noble Ice Arena.

Nick Wilcox got the Xpress (12-19-0) on the board at 7:19 of the first period with his seventh goal of the season from Michael Keller and Brian Grant before teammate Marks Mezsargs scored his sixth of the season from Grant at the 10:29 mark. Wooster’s Daniel Critzer scored from Matthew Kesto and Turner Banyasz at the 19:10 mark to close the gap to one goal heading into the second period.

The Xpress widened the gap at the 2:39 mark of the second period when Stuart Pearson scored his 17th of the season short-handed from Joey Gerace, and Pearson made it 4-1 at the 11:20 mark when he scored again from Gerace and Michael Lamison.

The Xpress scored on the power play at the 16:25 mark when Reginald Hunter tallied his fourth of the season from Ty Rickabaugh and Grant before the Oilers (14-12-3) made it 5-2 on Grant Dickinson’s goal from George Tomko and Cole Barney with 51 seconds left in the period.

In the third period, Wooster’s Shane Malinak scored from Matthew Crosby and Barney to make it 5-3 before Pearson completed his hat trick unassisted at the 5:21 mark. James Lowy added his sixth of the season from Waltteri Makinen and Tommy Muecke to make it 7-3 at the 6:45 mark before Grant completed the scoring for the Xpress with his third of the season from Rickabaugh and Wilcox.

Banyasz added a power-play goal for the Oilers from Zac Steele and Malinak at the 13:46 mark.

Ryan Pascarella made 24 saves for his second win of the weekend while Michael Hubbard and Joseph Ackley split 18 saves in defeat.

Southern Tier visits the Roc City Royals on Friday before returning home Saturday to take on the Royals at 7 p.m. in Northwest Arena.
