Ramsey’s Big Night Propels Sherman Past Frewsburg

FREWSBURG — Tanner Ramsey was able to pour in five 3-pointers on his way to 28 points to lead Sherman (8-5, 6-0) to a 64-54 Division 2 West win over host Frewsburg on Friday evening.

Ramsey came up big for his team after captain Jared Gleason got into foul trouble early. Mike Beatman chipped in with 18 points, nine boards and three blocks for the Wildcats while John Swabik added eight points and five steals.

Frewsburg (6-5, 5-2) was led by 24 points from Brad Nelson while Aaron Hair added 13 and Tyler Marchincin came down with eight rebounds in addition to his five points.

OVERTON, NECKERS SHINE

CLYMER — Savon Overton scored 10 points off the bench in the second quarter to spark Clymer (2-4, 5-7) to a 57-45 victory over Cassadaga Valley in Division 2 West game.

Overton’s points enabled the Pirates to take a 34-23 lead at halftime.

Dustin Neckers scored 15 points for the Pirates while Luke Beckerink had six assists. Overton finished up with 12 points and Neckers grabbed seven rebounds.

Conner Crabtree had 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, and David Peterson had four assists for Cassadaga Valley (2-4, 5-7).

DUNKIRK TRIMS T’BIRDS

MAYVILLE — The second half proved to be the turning point as Dunkirk (6-1) came from behind to beat Chautauqua Lake, 72-66, in Division 1 West boys basketball.

Dunkirk outscored Chautauqua Lake 39-29 after intermission, including 22-10 in the final period to post the come-from-behind victory.

Issiah Velez scored seven points and Devaun Farnham added six points in the 22-10 fourth quarter.

Devaun Farnham ended up with 21 points, Tyrese Christian-Johnson had 16 points, Darnell Butts added11 points and Issiah Velez added 10 points for the Marauders. Farnham and Tyrese Christian-Johnson grabbed 14 rebounds and Farnham brought down 10 and Felix Garcia added seven assists.

For Chautauqua Lake, Devin Pope had 18 points and Kyler Majka had 17, including 5 3-pointers. Majka had eight assists, Nate Adams 10 rebounds, Collin Wood six rebounds and Mike Anderson five assists.

FALCONER — Alex Weakfall had quite a performance off the Olean bench Friday night in Division 1 West boys basketball.

Weakfall scored 29 points as Olean upended Falconer, 85-23, to go to 6-0 in the league and 11-0 overall.

Weakfall scored five points in the first quarter, seven in second, 11 in the third and finished it off with six points in the fourth.

The Huskies took charge right away with a 32-4 first quarter and by halftime their lead had grown to 54-16.

Mike Schmidt added 13 points for the winners. The top scorer for Falconer (1-13, 0-7) was Tylar Olson with seven points. Olson had four rebounds as did Bobby Samuelson, who also had three assists.

ALLEGANY — Brooke Giardini scored 24 points and Morgan Davis added 20 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked four shots as Allegany-Limestone decisioned Randolph, 62-43, in a Division 1 East game.

The Lady Blue Devils led at halftime, 28-19, then took charge in the second half with a 34-25 run to bring their record to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Tierney Hemphill added 10 rebounds and three steals and Molly Wolfgang contributed six rebounds in the winning cause.

Sydney Hvizdzak had 14 points to lead Randolph (6-5, 3-1).

SHERMAN — Sherman (8-3, 3-0) picked up a 49-43 Division 2 West win over visiting Cassadaga Valley (4-9, 0-2), thanks to 16 points and 15 rebounds from Hannah Murdock as well as seven points and 13 boards from Maggie Myers.

Zoey Charrette added 16 points and notched four steals in the win while Carrie Sands grabbed five steals and added five points.

TROJANS STILL UNBEATEN

After battling to a 20-20 halftime tie, Southwestern (5-0, 12-0) turned it up in the second half to down visiting Fredonia (3-2, 5-7), 53-42, in Division 1 West action.

Erin Radack scored 23 points with 10 coming in the third quarter and Alanna Dibble added eight points that quarter for the Lady Trojans.

Dibble was a key factor on the boards with 17 rebounds and Radack and Samicka Matthews had 10 rebounds apiece for the winners.

Dibble wound up with 14 points to assist Radack in the scoring department.

For Fredonia (3-2, 3-7), A’Cetta Farriat had 12 points and Kazlin Beers added 10. Katie Price brought down 10 rebounds and Gracie Morrison rejected four shots.
