JCC Women Coast After 22-0 Start

ELYRIA, Ohio — Jamestown Community College scored the first 22 points of the game and led 30-3 after the first quarter en route to a 93-51 NJCAA nonconference win over Lorain County CC on Sunday afternoon.

The Jayhawks posted a shutout for the first 7:10 of the game and led 22-0 on Lakin Gustafson’s layup before Angel Blakley scored the Commodores’ lone points of the first quarter with a three-point play.

Lorain County CC actually outscored Jamestown CC, 17-16, in the second quarter before the Jayhawks pulled away with a 21-14 third quarter and a 26-17 fourth quarter.

Emilee Sperry led five players in double figures with 21 points for Jamestown CC while Nicole Johnson added 16 and Hayden Burgeson added 12. Taylor Phelps and Gustafson each chipped in 10.

Johnson also pulled down nine rebounds while Phelps had eight.

Carrie Carlson led Lorain County CC (5-14, 1-6 Region 12 Division III) with 18 points while Blakely added 17 points and eight rebounds.

The Jayhawks shot 56.5 percent from the floor, including 47.1 percent from 3-point range, while the Commodores were just 22.5 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from deep.

Jamestown CC (12-3, 4-1) returns to Region 3 Division II action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Erie CC at the Physical Education Complex.
