Jayden Schultz made three point-after kicks and two field goals as Jamestown beat Clarence, 53-52, in double-overtime of their Section Class AA quarterfinal game Friday night. Schultz converted the PATs on Savon VanSickle’s first-quarter touchdown, Andrew Pumford’s third-quarter touchdown and Fran Rodriguez’s fourth-quarter touchdown before making a 33-yard field goal to tie the game at the end of regulation. Schultz then made a 32-yard field goal in the first overtime.
Jason Almeter had three goals and two assists as Westfield/Brocton beat Silver Creek/Forestville, 7-3, in Section VI Class C quarterfinal action Thursday. Almeter scored from Nathan Culbreth in the first half before assisting on two David Skinner goals in the second half. Almeter also scored from Jacob Miller in the second half.
Kylie Brown had a goal and an assist as Southwestern beat Royalton-Hartland, 5-1, in Section VI Class B-2 quarterfinal action Friday. Brown scored from Karen Johnson during the 23rd minute of the second half before assisting on Hannah Sholl’s goal two minutes later.
Maddie Welsh had 16 kills and four blocks as Maple Grove defeated Panama, 25-18, 17-25, 13-25, 25-11, 25-17, to wrap up the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association South Division championship Wednesday evening in Panama.
Allie Stockwell won two events at the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Clarence on Saturday. Stockwell won the 50-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 24.53 to qualify for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships. Stockwell also won the 100-yard backstroke Saturday, and set a school record in the preliminaries Friday with a time of 58.69, also good enough to qualify for states.
Maddie Collins & Elise Swanson
Maddie Collins at Elise Swanson qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Tennis Championships with a second-place finish in doubles at the Section VI Championships on Saturday. Collins and Swanson beat Clarence’s Caroline Bolton and Chloe Esch, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals. In the finals, Collins and Swanson lost to Orchard Park’s Lauren Karoglan and Zoe Watson, 6-1, 6-1. On Friday, Collins and Swanson posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lancaster’s Corrie Bartos and Leah Heiler in the opening round before taking care of Williamsville North’s Julia Behar and Emily Segal, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Michael Peppy helped the Maple Grove Red Dragons wrap up a league title and a perfect regular season with a win at Breezewood Links on Tuesday. Peppy finished in 16:36 as the Red Dragons won with 29 points.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Ava Crist helped the Maple Grove Red Dragons wrap up a league title and a perfect regular season with a win at Breezewood Links on Tuesday. Crist finished in 19:23 as the Red Dragons won with 21 points.
