Falconer Advances In Class C

FALCONER — Alex Peterson scored twice to lead No. 6 Falconer past No. 11 Cassadaga Valley, 4-0, in Section VI Class C prequarterfinal play Wednesday afternoon.

Peterson opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first minute of play. Five minutes later, Izzy Penhollow scored her 14th of the season from Ali Davis to give the Golden Falcons a 2-0 lead. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Grace Penhollow scored her fourth of the season from Davis for a 3-0 lead.

In the 18th minute of the second half, Peterson scored her third of the season unassisted to put the game away.

Brianna Larson made two saves for her fifth shutout of the season for Falconer, which will take on No. 3 Allegany-Limestone at 3:15 p.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure University.

Jessie Morrison and Ashley Sischo combined for 12 saves for the Cougars.

RANDOLPH PULLS OFF 1-0 UPSET

MAYVILLE — For the fourth time this season, Kara Leeper scored the lone goal in a Randolph victory.

Wednesday’s goal may have been the biggest of the season as it helped the ninth-seeded Cardinals get past No. 8 Chautauqua Lake, 1-0, in Class C prequarterfinal play.

Leeper scored her 10th of the season from goalkeeper Corin Carpenter with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.

Carpenter made eight saves in the shutout for Randolph, which will take on No. 1 Maple Grove at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

T’WOLVES WIN ON ROAD

WESTFIELD — No. 10 Cattaraugus-Little Valley defeated No. 7 Westfield, 3-2, in Class C prequarterfinal play.

Laura Johnston scored her fifth of the season from Madyson Abbey during the 40th minute of the first half while Katie Bodenmiller extended her school record with her 25th of the season from Johnston in the sixth minute of the second half for the Wolverines.

Drew Schultz made eight saves in net for Westfield.

The Timberwolves will travel to No. 2 Holland for a quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. Friday.

No. 5 Portville beat No. 12 Salamanca, 7-0, in Wednesday’s other prequarterfinal and will travel to No. 4 Silver Creek for a 3:30 p.m. meeting Friday.

FRANKLINVILLE EARNS SHUTOUT

FRANKLINVILLE — Six different goal scorers helped No. 5 Franklinville beat No. 4 Pine Valley, 6-0, in Class D quarterfinal action.

Briana Broadwell scored from Gabby Milligan, Milligan scored from Broadwell, Sara Wright scored from Kala Nugent and Nugent scored from Amy O’Neal as Franklinville took a 4-0 lead into halftime.

After the break, Shannon Brown scored from Milligan and Abby McCoy tallied from Adrianna Claus.

Abby Burrell and Alivia Torpey combined for three saves in the shutout for Franklinville, which will take on No. 1 North Collins at 8 p.m. Monday in Dunkirk.
