Amborski Leads Jayhawks Past Jefferson CC

Three second-half goals, including two in the final 13 minutes, allowed Jamestown Community College to walk away with a 4-1 NJCAA Region 3 Division III men’s soccer win over Jefferson CC on Sunday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex.

Raymond Amborski opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season on an 18-yard direct kick with just 4.2 seconds remaining on the first-half clock.

The Jayhawks’ lead grew to 2-0 as Amborski scored his fifth of the season from Tyler Pride at the 54:19 mark.

The Cannoneers closed to within a goal at the 78:56 mark as Kenneth Rivera-Corona scored from Ethan Atnip, but Jamestown CC (4-12-2, 3-12-0) put the game away late.

Nyle Bird scored his fifth of the season from Mel Hamlyn at 82:24 and Pride scored his sixth of the season from Amborski at 88:31.

Nick Mole did not need to make a save in recording the win in net for the Jayhawks.

Brendon Hunter made nine saves for Jefferson CC (1-13-0, 1-13-0).

Jamestown CC will close out the regular season at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Niagara County CC.

“Right now our objective is to finish our last 10 games at .500 or better,” Jamestown CC coach Pat Anderson said. “With a win we’ll be 5-5-1 in our last 10 after an 0-7-1 start.”
