Silver Creek’s Cossin Places First At East Aurora Invitational

EAST AURORA — Jaylah Cossin of Silver Creek was victorious in the girls small school race at the East Aurora Invitational cross country meet on Saturday with a time of 19:12.68, leading her squad of runners to a second-place team finish with 70 points, behind Addison with 43.

Closely following Cossin was Hannah Sullivan, who led the Southwestern Lady Trojans with a time of 20:40.90 and an eighth-place finish, with Ellie Decker following in the 11th spot with a time of 21:02.28 for Silver Creek.

Daisy League took 17th for the Black Knights in 21:35.34, followed by Emma Pocobello with a time of 22:27.03 for Cattaraugus-Little Valley, which finished eighth in the team standings with 189 points.

Julia Fred led the way for Dunkirk at No. 29 in a time of 23:02.66, while the Lady Trojans had Lily Nelson post a time of 24:25.33 and Bethany Deshantz 24:26.80.

In the large school race, Mivette Clavijo ran a 23:53.03 to lead Jamestown, Mivelys Clavijo posted a 24:54.10 and Anasasha Pacheco ran a 28.38.04.

In boys small school action, Anthony Ruiz of Dunkirk took third in 16:19.57, and was chased to the finish by Southwestern’s Eddie Scroxton who grabbed fourth in 16:24.71.

Dagon Bryant of Southwestern followed Scroxton in eighth place (16:59.04) with teammate Tony Vezina taking 12th (17:34.62).

Riley Wilson led the Black Knights at No. 21 in 18:09.02 with teammate Dominic Jamison taking 22nd (18:11.11).

Also finishing were Drew Braden of Cattaraugus-Little Valley in 18:32 and Jaden Kinnear of Southwestern in 19:01.02.

Southwestern’s runners finished second with 97 points, while Dunkirk took seventh with 190 and Silver Creek was ninth with 214.

Jamestown finished the large school race with 533 points thanks to times from Drew Carlson (18:48.48), Alexander Reynolds (18:55.83), Chase Deponceau (19:16.03), Isaac Johnson (19:56.45), Collin Whiting (20:59.17) and Peter Barry (21:54.14).

Ian Russ of East Aurora toured the course in 14:53.32 for the win.
