JCC Women Post Shutout; JCC Men Settle For 1-1 Tie

Alexa Dix scored three second-half goals and added an assist as the Jamestown Community College women’s soccer team pulled away for a 7-0 victory over Mercyhurst North East in an NJCAA Western New York Athletic Conference game Wednesday.

“She’s playing the best ball she’s ever played,” JCC coach Dana Shelters said of Dix. “She’s making a name for herself.”

Kristin Bowker added two goals, including one via penalty kick, and had two assists; Savannah Rivera and Courtney Hewes each had a goal; and Sarah Russin added an assist.

For the game, the Jayhawks (4-2) outshot Mercyhurst North East, 30-4, in support of keeper Morgan Schoonover, who recorded her first shutout.

The Jayhawks led 2-0 at halftime, courtesy of goals by Bowker and Hewes, and then put the game away with five goals after intermission.

“Everybody’s been contributing this year,” Shelters said.

JAYHAWKS EARN TIE

Jamestown Community College (0-5-1) earned a 1-1 tie against visiting Mercyhurst North East (2-4-1) in Western New York Athletic Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday.

Madani Ba scored two minutes into the second half for the Jayhawks on a header by Scott Crowe, while it was Andrew Heft who evened the game with 20 minutes remaining on a breakaway against Jamestown goaltender Nick Mole, who ended the night with three saves.

Jason Marczek posted 12 saves for the visitors.
