The Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team had a productive weekend. It also finally had a full complement of players.

Added together, Coach Pat Anderson liked the result.

Madani Ba scored three goals, while teammates Brandon Greiner, Donald Amborski and Tyler Pride added one apiece to send the Jayhawks to a 6-1 NJCAA victory over Lorain County CC on Sunday afternoon, their second win in as many days.

“We’re playing good soccer,” Anderson said. ” … It all comes down to staying healthy.”

That had been a real issue for much of September, which included a 6-0 loss to Cayuga CC, a game in which Anderson was missing six players due to injury and three others due to red-card suspensions.

“It got to be overwhelming,” he said.

But the now-healthy Jayhawks edged Corning CC, 3-2, on Saturday for their first win, and then broke open a 2-1 game yesterday afternoon with four second-half goals to run their record to 2-7-1.

Ba tallied two goals in the first half, added his third early in the second half and then Pride, Greiner and Amborski found the back of the net against Lorain CC keeper Josh Piotrowski. Nick Mole faced six shots for the Jayhawks.

Recording assists for JCC were Melenio Hamlyn, Judah Herr, Jackson Rybicki and Nyle Bird.

The Jayhawks return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they entertain Monroe CC, a Division I school.

“I think we’re progressing in the right direction and we still have enough time to turn this around and get into the (NJCAA Region 3 Division III) playoffs,” Anderson said. “Given the start, it’s a tough thing to do, but we have enough games and we’re playing well enough to put ourselves in the playoff picture.”

WOMEN

JAYHAWKS ERUPT

The Jamestown CC women scored six second-half goals to down Lorain CCC, 6-0, to improve their record to 7-3.

Alexa Dix scored three goals, Courtney Hewes added two and Tayler Morrison had one for the Jayhawks who peppered Lorain CC keeper Emily Patterson with 25 shots.

Hewes tallied the first two goals of the second half and Morrison added one, making the score 3-0 in the 71st minute. Dix then scored the final three goals, which was more than enough support for Morgan Schoonover, who had to make just one save.

Dix now has 14 goals on the season, Hewes has nine and Morrison has five. Morrison and Abigail Merchant were credited with two assists apiece.

The Jayhawks return to action Friday when they travel to Hudson Valley CC for a 2 p.m. game.
