Cummins, GA Family Services, Libera/SKM Win Battle Events

Cummins won the Large Division volleyball tournament while GA Family Services at Lutheran and Libera/SKM brought home wins in the hotshot basketball competition and the Expresso bike relay for the Small Division in YMCA Battle action Tuesday evening.

Cummins’ volleyball team dominated the courts from the start and finished the night by beating Jamestown Teachers Association in a best-of-three series with 15-12, 15-13 wins. TitanX Engine Cooling went home with third-place honors.

In the Small Division 2-mile Expresso bike relay at the Jamestown YMCA, Libera/SKM took first place with a combined time of 17:36. Libera/SKM relay team members were Susan Gullotti, Jackson Graham and Martin Hoch. Matco (19.44) and Jamestown Bar Association/City Court (19.58) placed second and third, respectively.

Julie Fenton of Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union took over the title of top female finisher for this year’s biking event with a time of 6:29 while the top male honors were awarded to Graham of Libera/SKM with a time of 5:29.

At the Lakewood YMCA, GA Family Services’ threesome of Mark Blasdell, Ron James and Maceo Wofford finished first in the Small Division hotshot basketball competition with a combined score of 134. Libera/SKM came in second with 125 points followed by Jamestown Mattress with 124 points. The overall top event scorer was Alex Elderkin of Jamestown Mattress with 69 points.

While Cummins and Libera/SKM still top the divisions, JTA and Jamestown Mattress follow closely in second place in the large and small categories, respectively.

The YMCA Battle continues this evening with the 800 medley relay at 6 p.m. and the predicted mile walk at 6:30 for both divisions at the Falconer Central School track. The Small Division pool tournament at The Q will also take place starting at 6 p.m.
