Bona’s Adams Recipient Of Lofty National Hoops Ranking
ST. BONAVENTURE – Already a heralded player nationally, St. Bonaventure point guard Jaylen Adams picked up another honor this week as The Big Lead ranked him 32nd on its list of the top 50 players in college basketball for the 2017-18 season.
Adams is one of two A-10 players to make the list along with Richmond sophomore-to-be De’Monte Buckingham, who is slotted 50th. The Big Lead founder Jason McIntrye authored the rankings.
A rising senior, Adams made the first team All-Atlantic 10 each of the past two seasons. Last season, he also was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 4 First Team and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District II team. The Baltimore, Md., native was the only NCAA Division I player to rank in the top 25 nationally in scoring (24th at 20.6 points per game) and the top 10 in assists (seventh at 6.5 per game). Adams’ A-10 leading 195 assists are the second-most in a season in program history. Adams also finished second in the A-10 in steals (2.1 per game), second in minutes played (37.4), third in three-pointers (2.6 per game), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9) and 11th in free throw percentage (.821).
Last spring, Adams entered the NBA Draft, but did not retain an agent. After working out for three teams, he withdrew from draft consideration prior to the NBA’s deadline for underclassmen.
Over his three seasons, Adams has scored 1,377 points, which ranks 21st in program history. He has led the Bonnies to back-to-back 20-win seasons the past two years.
This weekend, Adams will participate in the prestigious adidas Nations basketball camp in Houston, Texas.
