Jamestown Loses Lead Late In New Jersey

SOMERS POINT, N.J. — The Jamestown All-Stars lost a close 3-2 decision to Upper Darby-Drexel Hill (Pa.) in their opening game of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old Mid-Atlantic Regional on Tuesday.

Jamestown scored in the top of the third inning when Aydan Bonta reached on an error and came in to score on Kyle Dean’s RBI groundout.

A second run came across in the top of the fifth inning when Bonta walked and came home on Dean’s fielder’s choice.

Upper Darby-Drexel Hill scored its first run in the fifth on an RBI single by Paul Morgan and two more in the sixth on Matt Tassone’s two-run single.

Riley Piazza pitched 5ª innings for Jamestown, permitting four hits, walking one and striking out two.

Morgan went the distance for the winners, allowing five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jamestown put a runner on in the seventh with one out but two infield outs ended the game.

Jamestown will take on Washington Township, the Southern New Jersey champion, at noon today before finishing pool play against Prince Georges County (Md.) at 9 a.m. Thursday.
