Vogt Memorial Sunday At Eriez

HAMMETT, Pa. — Bob Vogt was one of Eriez Speedway’s most popular drivers, winning Limited Late Model Championships in the 1980s and always a staunch track supporter. Bob raced several divisions over the years but his heart was always with the Limited Lates. His wife, Jackie, was always his biggest fan and spent many years in the tower officiating as a track scorer, not only here but other area tracks as well. Their son, Bob Vogt Jr. is the 2016 champion in the Conway & O’Malley Tire Service Economods. This Sunday, Eriez will remember the Vogts with a special for the class paying $1,030 to win, the “30” in honor of Bob’s racing number. The race was originally scheduled to pay $700 until an anonymous family member stepped in with the extra $330. The entire Eriez racing community is grateful for the participation of the Vogt family members, and all fans of our sport.

Bob Vogt Jr. has finally got his car ready and expects to be in the field for the Vogt Memorial. Currently the points leader is Dustin Eckman by a 20-point edge over Brandon Blackshear. Both leaders have a feature win this season. The rest of the top five includes Geoff Conn, Mike Boyd and Mitchell Wright. Conn and Wright are both on the cusp of winning their first main events while Boyd has a win in the division, that coming last season on June 19.

The Plyler Overhead Door Super Late Models will be in competition with a regular-length 25-lap feature. Dave Hess Jr., a former champion, is the current points leader and has one win. Hess scored the win opening night while David Scott was victorious June 11. Greg Oakes is currently second with Bump Hedman, a former champion third, Rich Gardner, a five-time champion fourth, and Darrell Bossard, the 2015 champion, fifth. All have Eriez Speedway wins and are formidable challengers for the win any night they retake the green flag.

Opening-night winner and defending champion Jason Genco is the early leader in the title chase for the Bonnell’s Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Model championship over Andy Boozel, winner of the most recent contest. Mike Knight, Wyatt Scott and Kyle Zimmerman, a former champion, round out the top five.

Former champion Joel Watson leads the way in the Ran-Den Excavating E-Mods with wins both nights. David Scott, the defending champion, is only 19 points back in second with Michael McGee third, John Boyd fourth and Mike Kinney fifth.

Chris McGuire and Don McGuire each have a feature win this season in the Nelson Lynwood Nursery Street Stocks but Chris has gathered 31 more points in his quest for a repeat championship. Jimmy Kennerknecht is third with Gary Fisher and Wesley McCray Jr. filling out the top five.

Davey Lowe and John Zeleznick each have a win in the Kandy’s Gentlemen’s Club Challengers, but Spencer Marcy leads the standings over Gary Troyer, Chris Horton, Aron Marcy and Jeff Nunemaker.
