Wefing Shines For Edinboro Early In The T&F Season
The Edinboro University junior posted a second-place finish and set a new personal best in the event, finishing with a PSAC qualifying time of 1:50.53 in the 800 meters at the Tennessee Rust Buster last Saturday.
The Fighting Scots squad came into the event ranked 20th in the first week of the NCAA Division I men’s team computer rankings, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Earlier this month at the Charlotte 49er Classic, Wefing recorded an NCAA provisional time of 3:51.38 in the 1,500 meters, good for a third-place finish. He finished behind just two professional runners in the event.
Wefing is a graduate of Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School and is a Maple Springs resident.

Another Maple Grove graduate, Collin Stack, continues to put up nice numbers for the University of Maryland Baltimore County baseball team.
A junior outfielder, Stack is batting .310 in 15 games during which he has driven in seven runs and scored 11 more. He has stolen three bases.

Mitchell Moore, a Jamestown High School graduate, is a junior on the University at Buffalo’s track & field team.
During the 2015-16 season, Moore placed fifth in the 500 meters at Cornell; took fourth in the 400 meters at the Penn State Invitational with a time of 48.82; placed second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 42.14 at the Wake Forest Open; was part of the school-record 4×200 relay with a time of 1:25.43; placed fifth at Lou Onesty Invitational in the 200 meters, clocking at 22.01; placed first in the 400 hurdles at the Northeast Challenge with a time of 53.61; placed fifth at the Jesse Owens Classic with a time of 53.29; and earned a bronze medal as part of the 4×100 relay at the Mid-American Conference Championships, closing in at 40.85.

St. Bonaventure University freshman Nolan Ditcher (Randolph) had his best team finish, standing second on the golf squad in the final round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Ditcher finished with a 79-74-77-230, two shots behind teammate Corey Long (228).
Dylan Glatz (Jamestown) is a sophomore on the Bonnies’ team, which is coached by Sherman native Ryan Swanson.

Emily Hair (Frewsburg) is off to a fine start in her junior season on the Mercyhurst University softball team.
In 19 games, Hair is batting .385, collecting 25 hits in 65 at-bats. Along the way, she has recorded 15 RBIs and belted a double and two home runs. Last week against Malone she had three hits in four at-bats, including a pair of home runs and drove in four runs.
Another Frewsburg native, Emily Foy, is a senior on the team.

Junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg) has posted a 5-2 record in the circle for the Baldwin-Wallace softball team.
In 40.1 innings pitched, she has struck out 39 and posted a 2.43 earned run average.

Matt Mazurek (Silver Creek) is in his 11th season with the Canisius College baseball coaching staff and his eighth year as an assistant coach after spending three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach. He is the longest-tenured assistant coach in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Mazurek has helped lift the Griffs to unprecedented success in the program as he was a part of the 2013 and 2015 championship seasons and the Blue and Gold’s first two NCAA appearances.
Mazurek has served as the program’s hitting instructor during the past eight years, as Canisius has posted a team batting average of .299 during that time frame. The Griffs ranked 19th in the country during the 2013 season with a .299 batting average and hit .330 as a team in 2010. Canisius has led the conference in home runs four times in those six years, including a total of 90 home runs from 2009 when Canisius was 19th in the country. The Griffs have had at least 80 stolen bases in four of the last five seasons, ranking 19th in the country during the 2013 season.
Nolan Hunt (Westfield) is a sophomore pitcher on the team.
