LECOM Qualifier To Be Played At Shorewood

FINDLEY LAKE — The LECOM Health Challenge — a Web.com Tour event to be held at Peek’n Peak Resort July 3-9 — recently announced that Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk will host the 2017 local qualifier event on Monday, July 3.

Last year, tournament champion Rick Lamb gained entry to the LECOM Health Challenge through the local qualifier. Doing so allowed him to graduate to the PGA Tour where he currently plays with golf’s top professionals.

“After last year’s LECOM Health Challenge, we know how exciting and important the qualifier round is,” said Michelle Turner, tournament spokesperson and vice president of marketing at the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation, the tournament’s host organization. “Hosting the tournament at Shorewood Country Club not only helps us expose players from across the country to a wonderful course, but it also allows us to showcase another vibrant part of Chautauqua County, an area in which we’re proud to host our tournament.”

Shorewood is one of the oldest private golf clubs in Western New York and one of the only courses located on the scenic shores of Lake Erie. A course that’s played host to numerous golf events including pro-ams and professional tournaments, Shorewood offers a full suite of amenities including private dining, outdoor banquet facilities and an Olympic-sized pool complete with a full-service bar. Founded in 1918, the club is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year.

“For our course and community, we’re incredibly pleased to be hosting the qualifier round for the LECOM Health Challenge,” said Shorewood Country Club PGA Golf Professional Brad Smith. “It’s an honor to host a portion of a PGA Tour event, and we can’t wait to have the players, amateur and professional alike, at Shorewood.”

The qualifying round is open to the public. Depending on an individual’s status as a golfer, competitors are required to pay an entry fee ranging from $100 to $450. More information on qualifier event entry fees and registration can be found at https://westernnypga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/westernnypga17/event/westernnypga1720/index.htm.

The qualifier event shifts to Dunkirk after it was held at Peek’n Peak Resort’s Lower Course in 2016.
