Alfred Freshman Is Empire 8 Conference Rookie Of?The Week

ALFRED — For the second time in her inaugural season, first year Alfred University women’s basketball guard Jamie Wilcox (Forestville/Pine Valley) has been named the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Jamie earned the Empire 8 honors at the beginning of the month on Feb. 6, just months after her twin sister, Jessica Wilcox (Forestville/Pine Valley), had earned it while she was on the team on Nov. 28. Jessica is now currently devoting her time to the softball team at Alfred University.

Jamie and the Saxons played a two-game week to close out the regular season, having earned their second Empire 8 win with the overtime 83-78 victory on the road in the season finale at Houghton College on Saturday. In the contest, Jamie scored a career-high 27 points, making 10-of-21 shots from the floor (.476) including three 3-pointers and going 4 of 7 from the free throw line. She also added five rebounds, three assists and three steals on the day.

On Tuesday, she finished with 14 points and added three rebounds, five assists and a career-tying six steals on the evening against Elmira College.

Jamie finishes her first collegiate season with 307 points, 49 steals, 88 rebounds, 66 steals, 31 3-pointers and 20 starts. She averaged 12.8 points per game, 2.04 steals per game, 2.75 assists per game and 3.7 rebounds per game. Jamie finished second on the team in points, points per game, assists, assists per game and most field goals. She led the Saxons in 3-pointers and steals while being third in offensive rebounds (32).

Medaille College’s women’s basketball team finished the regular season with three straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference wins and will enter this weekend’s conference tournament in Pittsburgh as the No. 2 seed.

Dani Reinwald (Clymer/Clymer) finished the season fifth in the conference in scoring at 16.9 points per game while grabbing a league-leading 17.1 rebounds per game — nearly eight more than the second-place woman.

Reinwald also blocked more than two shots per game and picked up more than two steals per game for Medaille, which finished the regular season 13-12 overall and 12-6 in the conference.

SUNY Fredonia’s women’s basketball team finished the regular season 17-8 overall, including 11-7 in SUNYAC play, and will take on Cortland on the road as the conference playoffs open tonight. The Blue Devils actually finished with 9-2 record away from Steele Hall this season while going just 8-6 at home.

Sophomore forward Jenna Einink (Westfield/Chautauqua Lake) finished the regular season second on the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game while leading the team with 7.9 rebounds per game. Einink also blocked 37 shots and picked up 34 steals while handing out 58 assists.

Khee Nance (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) added 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while Alisha Szumigala (Forestville/Jamestown CC) chipped in 4.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Blue Devils.

Houghton College lost three straight Empire 8 Conference games to close its regular season with a 11-14 record, including 5-11 in conference play.

Elle Reed (Sherman/Jamestown CC) led the Highlanders in scoring at 14.1 points per game while grabbing 5.0 rebounds per game. Reed also handed out 45 assists and picked up 31 steals.

Emily Swanson (Bemus Point/Maple Grove) averaged 5.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while handing out 30 assists and picking up 17 steals for Houghton.

Brittany Lenart (Panama/Panama) averaged 7.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while giving out 50 assists and picking up 19 steals for the Highlanders.

With one game left in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular season, the Seton Hill Griffins sit at 15-12 overall and 11-10 in conference.

Chrisanna Green (Jamestown/Jamestown) is second on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game and first in rebounding at 9.8 per game. Green also has 52 assists and 22 steals on the year.

With a 15-10 regular season in the books, the Hilbert College Hawks are awaiting a first-round Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoff game at Penn State Altoona on Wednesday night.

Josh Eddy (Panama/Panama), a freshman forward, finished the season averaging 1.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7.7 minutes per game for the Hawks, who finished 11-7 in conference. Eddy also blocked five shots.
