PHILADELPHIA — Matt Mobley scored 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead St. Bonaventure to an 83-77 win over Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday night at Hagan Arena.

The win completed a sweep of the season series but, more importantly, kept the Bonnies (17-10, 9-6) in fifth place in the Atlantic 10 with three games remaining in the regular season.

Mobley’s backcourt mate, Jaylen Adams, scored 17 points and handed out nine assists.

The Bonnies led, 40-36, at halftime before the Hawks took a one-point lead early in the second half. St. Bonaventure, however, took control with a 9-5 run that ended with the visitors ahead, 72-62, with 4:32 left.

Mobley’s third 30-point game of the season was highlighted by 20 points in the first half. Denzel Gregg scored 12 points and David Andoh added 11 for St. Bonaventure.

Plagued by early foul trouble, the Bonnies fell behind 17-10 seven minutes into the game. Denzel Gregg picked up two fouls in the first five minutes. Mobley helped St. Bonaventure regain its stride, scoring 12 of the visitors’ first 14 points.

A 13-3 run gave the Bonnies the lead at 23-20 with 7:10 left in the opening half. The surge continued and St. Bonaventure led by as many as nine at 38-29.

It was a 40-36 Bonnies lead at halftime as Mobley finished the opening stanza with 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting which included four 3-pointers.

St. Joseph’s took a 49-48 lead early in the second half, but the Bonnies responded with a 9-4 run to take a 57-53 lead. An intentional foul called against the Hawks led to four of those points.

SJU coach Phil Martelli was ejected from the game at the 9:02 mark, and Mobley converted four free throws to make it a 63-55 Bonnies lead.

The Bonnies maintained at least a five-point edge from that point all the way until the 26-second mark, when Nick Robinson made a 3-pointer to bring Saint Joseph’s within 78-75.

Mobley was fouled and he made two free throws.

After a Hawks layup, Mobley made two more at the line to close out the game.

St. Bonaventure will host Duquesne on at 4 p.m., Saturday at the Reilly Center. It will be Homecoming Weekend on campus.
