Fast Start Lifts Xpress To Home Win Over Lockport

Supported by a four-goal first period, the Southern Tier Xpress (14-23-4) downed the Lockport Express, 9-4, in an NA3HL game Thursday morning at Northwest Arena.

The win was the first home victory for Southern Tier (14-23-4) since Jan. 6.

Cameron Trejchel got the Xpress off to a fast start at 31 seconds by scoring his 15th goal from Ty Rickabaugh and Devin Laird and they kept the offensive pressure on Lockport (14-28) the rest of the way.

Luke Grossman made it 2-0 by converting passes from Rickabaugh and Tristan Mock at 5:09 for his 10th goal this season. The score became 3-0 when Joe Gerace got his ninth goal of the season at 6:26 from Trejchel and Grant Scharmer.

Lockport tallied a goal when Chace Woods scored from Pavel Kovtunov and Michael Sokol at 15:07 on a power play, but Rickabaugh got his first of three goals from Jacob St. Andre at 16:38 to give the Xpress a 4-1 lead.

At 3:04 of the second period, Lockport’s Andrew Logar got his 23rd goal of the season from Blake Bennett and Nick Grupp on a power play to cut the Xpress lead to 4-2.

Rickabaugh recorded his second of the game from Mock and Arttu Rajamaki at 3:45 to make it 5-2. But Bennett’s 3lst goal of the season from Logar and John Duffy at 5:59 cut the margin to 5-3.

The Xpress scored again when Rickabaugh got his hat trick and ninth of the season from Grossman and St. Andre on a power play at 12:05 to make the score, 6-3.

Rajamaki opened the third period by getting his 13th goal of the season from Santeri Rajakallio and St. Andre at 2:23 to improve the host’s lead to 7-3.

Kovtanov connected for the final goal for Lockport from Woods and Brandon Schweickert at 11:50 to whittle the Lockport deficit to 7-4.

Grossman scored his 11th from Mock at 18:50 and St. Andre got his 13th from Rajakallio at 19:22 to close out the scoring.

Winning goalie Ryan Pascarellla stopped 40 shots. The losing netminder was Adam Partridge with 45 saves.

Former Jamestown Laker Gibson Stuart is Lockport’s captain.

The Xpress play their final home game at 7 p.m. today against the Pittsburgh Vengeance on Fan Appreciation Night.
