Xpress Fall To Metro Jets, 4-0
For the first time this season, the Southern Tier Xpress suffered a shutout loss at the hands of unbeaten Metro Jets in the North American Tier III Hockey League on Friday night at the Northwest Arena.
The Xpress and the Jets were scoreless until the third period when the Jets tallied four times to record a 4-0 victory and remain unbeaten.
The defeat dropped the Xpress to 12-15-2 and the win lifted the Jets to 32-0-0 record. They have scored 172 goals while allowing just 32 all season.
Graham Day broke the scoreless tie at 30 seconds of the final period when he tallied his 14th goal from Louis Boudon for a 1-0 lead.
Jake Gleason made it 2-0 for the Jets from Marc Schwartz at 12:49.
At 17:12, Connor Inger tallied an empty-net goal from Robby Flannery followed by the final goal at 17:49 by Mathias Tellstrom from Boudon and Schwartz. That was Tellstrom’s 18th goal.
Ryan Pascarella was extremely busy in the Xpress goal with 53 saves while Andrew Kommos made 41 saves for the Jets.
The Xpress travel to the Pittsburgh Vengeance for a 6:30 p.m. game today followed by a 3 p.m. game on Sunday at the Northwest Arena against the Roc City Royals.
