Oilers Rally Past Xpress For 5-4 Win In Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio — Mike Zenone’s second goal from Nick Stanko and Cole Barney at 6:23 of third period gave the Wooster Oilers a 5-4 win over Southern Tier Xpress in the North American Tier III Hockey League on Friday night at the Alice Noble Ice Arena.

The Oilers’ Nick Mooney scored from Zenone and Tyler Groth at 5:36 to tie the game at 4-all.

Jacob St. Andre scored from Santeri Rajakallio at 19:46 of the second stanza to put the Xpress (12-17-5) ahead 4-3.

Zenone had tied it up at 3-all from Trenton Mulnix and Barney at 15:46 of the second period.

There were five goals recorded in the first stanza with the Xpress taking a 3-2 lead. Tristan Mock opened the scoring for the Xpress from Eriq Schau and Hunter Kepple at 2:28 before the Oilers (21-22-3) scored two straight goals with Mulnix tallying from Jeremy Ross at 3:51 and Mooney scoring from Tyler Kallay and Zenone at 13:34.

The Xpress got the final two goals of the opening 20 minutes. Rajakallio recorded a goal from Jacob St. Andre at 15:40 to tie it up at 2-all before St. Andre put the Xpress ahead from Joe Gerace and Rajakallio.

Ryan Pascarella was the losing goaltender with 27 saves while Jared Stahel earned the win with 21 stops.

The Xpress complete the home-and-home with the Oilers today at 7 p.m. at Northwest Arena.
