Dominic Vavala, a sixth-grader at Southwestern Middle School, has competed this year in the USA Snowboarders Association events at Holiday Valley, Holimont, Peek’n Peak, Ontario and in the Catskill Mountains. With his multiple wins, he is currently ranked 10th in the nation in his age group for giant slalom, slalom and boardercross, and ranked first in the Western New York Series in each of those events. He qualifies for the national competition at Copper Mountain in Colorado in April where he will be joined by the 60 top-ranked boys in the United States.
