MAYVILLE - Donald Lee Hammond, 65, of 6428 Centralia-Hartfield Road, Mayville, died Saturday (Aug. 2, 2014) in St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, Pa.
He was born Jan. 10, 1949, in Batavia, N.Y., the son of the late Francis Clyde and Inez May Sickles Hammond.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.

Don had been a truck driver for Ethan Allen Furniture and Hills Trucking.
He was a life member of William L. Travis American Legion Post 493 in Mayville and a life member of Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post 8647 VFW in Mayville.
Don loved spending time with grandchildren, his 1968 Dodge Dart and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Rubner Hammond, whom he married May 21, 1971, in Pomfret, N.Y.; two sons: Christopher (Shirley) Hammond of Westfield, and Timothy (Tracy) Hammond of Mayville; five grandchildren: Nathan, Cody, Emily, Elizabeth and Ethan; and three brothers: Clifford (Cheryl) Hammond of Ripley, Richard (Selinda) Hammond of Mayville and Philip (Kris) Hammond of Jamestown.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
