Kathleen Louise (Nelson) Yanik, 58, of Gerry, N.Y., died Saturday, March 22, 2014, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her husband and son at her side.
She was born April 1, 1955, in Jamestown, the daughter of Donna (Wright) Nelson and the late Charles Nelson.
Kathy graduated from Southwestern High School. She was employed by Chautauqua Hardware for 27 years. She had also been employed by Valley Industries and most recently by Anderson Cleaners, to which she loved to go and thought very much of her co-workers.
She enjoyed planting her gardens, tending to her cats, spending time with family, hunting, working flea markets and having extensive phone conversations with family.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Joe Yanik; her son, John (Amanda) Nelson; her mother, Donna Nelson; her three sisters: Theresa (Paul) Pellico and children Scott, Katie and Jeffrey; Patricia (Jeff) Kelderhouse; and Jody Tuller and children Carrie (Jeff) Holton with Micaiah, Gabriel, Simon-Charles and Berea, and Curtis Tuller; her brother, Jeff Nelson; and her stepson, Joey Yanik; and grandchildren: Jaden and Julianna.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by much loved family members: "Uncle Tony" Scarry, "Aunt Bea" Nelson, and a nephew, Randy Myers. Kathy will be joining her beloved special family members: Gracie, Rusty, Nonnahs and Tanner.
Kathy was very grateful and appreciative for the wonderful care and loving people and new friends she made through her journey with Hospice and Roswell Park.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home, 44 W. Falconer St., Falconer, NY 14733. A private memorial service will be held in Fluvanna Community Church.
