COTTAGE - Major Szymanski, 94, of Cottage Road, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Forestville, N.Y.
He was born April 1, 1919, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Walter and Katherine (Pyza) Szymanski.
Mr. Szymanski was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the 193rd Field Artillery in the European Theater. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was married to the former Violet C. Chzanowski, who predeceased him on Sept. 11, 2013.
Mr. Szymanski had worked for the Carnation Co. in Dunkirk, N.Y., for more than 40 years. He was a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post 1593 and the Slovenian Club in Gowanda, N.Y.
He is survived by three sons: William (Deborah) Szymanski of Forestville, N.Y., Robert Szymanski of Ashville, N.Y., and Richard Szymanski of Forestville, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren: Alexander and Nathan. Also surviving is a brother, August Szymanski of South Dayton, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he is predeceased by a son, Walter Szymanski, two brothers: Frederick and Chester Szymanski; and two sisters: Ann Williamson and Bertha Milks.
Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 E. Main St. in Gowanda, N.Y. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 10-11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Gowan-da, N.Y.
