FALCONER-The 14th annual Patrick J. Morales Wrestling Tournament will kick off once more at 5 p.m. at Falconer Central School on Friday.
The defending champion Golden Falcons will look to continue their streak of dominance as tournament hosts as they enter the weekend with a perfect 14-0 record and the No. 7 ranking in the New York State Sportswriters Association small-school poll.
Last Saturday the Golden Falcons notched a fourth-place finish at the NFWOA Tournament in Niagara Falls behind solid wrestling from Jim Schwab, Zak Mata, and Ricky Griffith.
This year's Morales Tournament field will feature 16 schools from around Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania.
Local squads, in additional to Falconer, include Frewsburg, Randolph, Southwestern, Maple Grove, Jamestown, Westfield-Ripley-Chautauqua Lake and Cassadaga Valley.
Bradley Bihler and Howie Nolan of Maple Grove will enter the tournament after earning individual titles at the NFWOA Niagara meet at 120 and 160 pounds respectively.
Sheffield, Corry, Eisenhower, Harbor Creek, and Union City will make the trip to Falconer for the tournament from Pennsylvania.
After the first-round of bouts on Friday, Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m.,followed by semifinal matches at noon.
The champions will be decided starting at 6 p.m.
Admission for all-day passes on Friday and Saturday will cost $6 while an all-session pass for the entire tournament will be $8 for adults, and $6 for students and senior citizens.
A ticket for just the finals will be $3.
