Kathleen Helen Smith Turpin, 88, of Decatur, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013.
She was born Oct. 17, 1925, to the late Ernest and Helen Smith.
She has been a resident of Decatur for 15 years. She graduated summa cum laude from God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Theology degree.
She loved spending time cooking and performing needle arts, especially crocheting. However, above all of these, she loved and cherished her family as a loving spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
In addition to her mother and father, she is preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Lynn Turpin; one brother, David Smith; and one sister, Alice Francis.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 65 years, Gene Turpin; two daughters: Cheryl Cogdill (Larry), Elizabeth James (Stacy); five sons: Randall Turpin, Steven Turpin (Ruby), Roland Turpin (Collette), Leigh Turpin (Debi), Larry Turpin (Patty); five brothers; five sisters; 21 grandchildren; and 32 greatgrandchildren. In addition to these, she leaves behind several extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Union Grove Baptist Church in Decatur, Tenn. A funeral service will be held at the church at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery in Decatur, Tenn.
